Getting started
Do I need to know lighting programming?
No. Your fixtures' button pages are created automatically, the theme assistant builds complete moods and AUTO mode follows the music. Detailed programming is there whenever you feel like it.
What computer do I need?
A computer running Windows, macOS or Linux. The desk then opens in the browser of any phone or tablet on the same network, with no app to install.
Can I control the lights from my phone?
Yes. A QR code opens the desk in the browser of your phone or tablet: pages, TAP, Blackout, Freeze. An optional password keeps it safe from guests who find the Wi-Fi.
Where can I report a bug or suggest a feature?
On the FutureLights Discord server: one forum for bugs, another for ideas, where everyone votes for the next features. The “Join the Discord” link is at the bottom of every page.
Hardware and shows
Will my USB DMX interfaces work?
FutureLights works with the USB DMX interfaces common among DJs (1 and 2 universes), FTDI-based interfaces (Open DMX, DMX USB Pro) and any Art-Net or sACN node. During the beta, each model is validated with early users.
What about my MIDI controllers?
Touch a button on screen, then hit a pad: the mapping is learned. Colour LED feedback and MIDI clock for tempo. Profiles for common controllers are being validated.
Can I bring my existing shows?
Yes: FutureLights imports your current light shows, then re-imports them without losing what you added. Your shows stay in an open format and can also go to QLC+.
Plans and data
What about no internet on the night?
Everything works: control, programming, interfaces, 3D Studio. Only the hosted AI features wait for the network to come back.
Where does my data go?
Your shows stay on your PC, in an open format. No key or password is ever stored in the show. Your beta email is only used to let you know.
Is it really free?
Yes: the full software is free and will stay free. Paid offers (credit pack, Essential and Premium plans) only cover the hosted AI, generated content and, after the beta, cloud backup; they are not on sale yet.
